Huge, Major, Spectacular Blog Announcement!

by Joel Gunz

When Amanda and I officially launched this love child of ours on February 14, we had only a vague notion of where we wanted it to go. We knew we were going to visit a different church every Sunday and we knew we were going to write about it. Beyond that, our ambitions were vague. We wanted to grow our audience, maybe tour the country’s most infamous churches, definitely write a book. It didn’t take long for us to know one thing for sure: we had to keep writing this blog.

Enter beliefnet.com, the world’s most visited website for religion and spirituality. Their editorial staff caught wind of our project about a month after our launch and invited us to bring Year of Sundays over to their community, where we could earn a decent living wage for all this dirty church business we do and take advantage of their massive resources and built-in readership to reach a much larger audience.

They had us at “wage.”

Perusing the site, we also saw that we would be in good company, sharing the masthead with the likes of Deepak Chopra and other best-selling authors.

But there were concerns, too. Like, how our blog isn’t known for its piety. How Amanda swears like a sailor. How we can’t help fantasizing about what really goes on in the confessional booth. The editors assured us that we would have to change nothing. In fact, they wanted us because of our *ahem* unorthodox take on the church scene.

So, after much heartfelt prayer (ha!) and internal gut checking, we realized this was an offer we couldn’t refuse. So, starting today, you will find A Year of Sundays at our new address at http://blog.beliefnet.com/yearofsundays. In fact, go there right now, where you’ll read just exactly how nauseous excited I am about tonight’s visit to a Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall.
